Renovations and additions - Architecture and interiors.
A labour of love, these clients have painstakingly restored their limestone cottage to its former glory - and in doing so gained an expert knowledge of limestone reconstruction! They required an addition which opened the undercroft in a usable, light filled and pragmatic way. A bright and clean palette, lots of natural light and celebrating the raw beauty of limestone is the central focus of this new wing.
What Toni & Bruce said -
‘We first meet Emily 6 years ago and we have now worked together on our project over several years. We selected Emily because of the style of architecture she applies to her work.
Their commitment and vision for our project has not faded and we are grateful for their professionalism, expertise and support. They work to resolves issues quickly and present a range of solutions to problems. They have coordinated other professionals i.e. engineers and formed a good working relationship with our builder.
Their approach to their work is friendly and calm, this was required to manage the challenge of dealing with a fragile old building, a partially self-managed build, and cost constraints. Not to mention our anxiety.
The project included the restoration to an old Fremantle limestone multi-level cottage which had been extensively altered, an addition, and a studio. This project has occurred over several years due to the restoration work which was largely completed by ourselves. The biggest challenge was, we didn’t know exactly what we wanted. We aimed to keep the addition small, within the current building foot print and we had needs and ideas that may not fit into the usual requirements.
In the end what Emily created was an elegant design, which did not compete with the original building and presented a beautiful Australian style to the addition and studio.
Thank you. ‘
